3 Year Stewardship Challenge

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Why are we conducting another stewardship campaign?

Currently, we are unable cover our building loan payments from weekend offerings. This campaign will allow us make these payments while our weekend offerings grow.

How much do we owe on our building?

$3,200,000

Building Purchase Price

($1,400,000)

Down Payment Plus Principal Payments Made to Date

$1,800,000

Mortgage Amount as of June 1, 2010

Our current principal and interest payments are $10,550 per month (interest rate is 4.95%).
We borrowed $240,000 from multi-location savings to make the principal payments above.

What is the goal for the Legacy campaign?

The need is $600,000 as follows:

Monthly principal and interest $10,550 per month x 36 months     $380,000
Funds needed for building repair & replacement projects              $120,000
Pay back a portion of the multi-location loan                               $100,000
                                                                                              $600,000

How long will the campaign run?
The campaign will run December 1, 2010 – November 30, 2013.

What is our financial plan after the campaign?
We hope by the end of the campaign to make principal and interest payments from weekend offerings, thus eliminating the need for future building campaigns.

The current loan ends June 1, 2015. At that time, we will need to re-finance the remaining balance of approximately $1.6M with a long-term mortgage.

If we exceed our campaign goal of $600,000, that money will be applied directly to the principal of our current loan.

HEARING PERSONALLY FROM GOD

Prepare Your Heart

Thirst for Jesus and hunger to see His glory!  Seek Jesus as your greatest treasure!
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it,
he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.”

Matthew 13:44, NIV

Be willing
Understand that God tests our hearts through giving opportunities. Money is often linked to our pleasures, security, prestige, and relationships. The prospect of giving away money can make us nervous. It will often test and flush out the “over-desires” in our lives.  Rather than avoiding a giving opportunity—be willing to give, so that you can understand the deep issues in your heart.

Talk to God

“But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as
this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.”

1 Chronicles 29:14, NIV

Using this verse as your ‘heart-sieve’ ask:

• “Everything we have has come from You, and we give You only what You first gave us.”
• “God, how do you want to show me your glory through this giving opportunity?”
• “God, what should sacrificial giving mean to me?”
• “God, you are my greatest treasure. What issues in my heart are you trying to prune or purify?”
• “God, you gave me all my resources. I own nothing. How are you asking me to help finance the building?”
• “God, how much should I give?”

Listen to God
What is God placing on your heart? Can you give that amount joyfully?

Collaborate with your spouse (if applicable)
If you are married, you are partners in the Kingdom. Please have an honest conversation on what God is speaking to your hearts and decide together how much to give.

“Can two people walk together without agreeing on the direction?” Amos 3:3, NLT

WAYS TO MAKE AND MEET A PLEDGE

This chart is a tool that you may find helpful as you seek to hear personally from God. The chart is a hypothetical representation as to how the church might receive gifts totaling $600,000, based upon statistical data from other churches that had similar fundraising goals. The chart shows the number of households giving at various levels and the cumulative effect of those gifts.

The biblical basis for this chart is that God has given each of us differing amounts of
resources in which to manage.

“Again, the Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a man going on
a long trip. He called together his servants and entrusted his money to them while he
was gone. He gave five bags of silver to one, two bags of silver to another, and one bag of
silver to the last—dividing it in proportion to their abilities. He then left on his trip.”

Matthew 25:14-15, NLT

Each of us has been given differing amounts of resources to manage, and therefore should pledge differing amounts to the campaign.  To start, ask yourself, “At what level on the chart do I (we) feel the most comfortable giving?” Then prayerfully consider stretching your faith and ask God to show you ways to give at the next higher level. If God shows you how to give at that level, then pray about the next higher amount.  Continue to pray up the chart until God no longer shows you how to give at that level.

HOW TO MOVE UP THE CHART
Our building needs will be met as we discover ways to give “over and above” our normal (tithe) giving. The true practice of Biblical management is not limited to what we are able to give from a bank account. We manage much more than a bank account, but a broad variety of resources. We should examine all the resources that God has given to us to manage. True giving reflects the totality of our life, not just what’s in the bank! For example, God has led people to give by the following:

Priority Budgeting
• Gift by postponing a planned expenditure (“buy the car in three years and not now”)
• Gift by sacrificing something presently in the budget (“go without the car”)

Redirect Present Expenditure
• Gift by giving something presently being given to other causes
• Gift by giving money that has been or being used elsewhere

Gifts of Unexpected Cash
• Gifts from an inheritance
• Gift from a dividend
• Gifts from a gift

Gift from Increased Income
• Gift from an increase in salary
• Gift from bonuses
• Gift from dividends, rentals, etc.

Gifts from Accumulated Cash
• Gift from a savings account

Gift from Extra Work
• Gift from a second job
• Gift from other earnings

Gift of Valuable Real Estate and Personal Property
• Gift of valuable (and not-so-valuable) personal property. Sell it on E-Bay!
• Gift of real estate

Gifts of Stock and Bonds
• Gift of appreciated stock (great tax benefits!)

Gifts from Life Insurance
• Gifts of cash within policy

Gifts from a Trust
• Gift of property
• Gift of income now, either give or keep property later
• Gift from a retirement fund

Important note:

Secure legal and tax counsel prior to giving stock or property to the church. Also, check with Jim Bird (952-564-3771) prior to giving any personal property to verify that the church can accept the property.
